Welcome to the Ascension Outreach website. We serve the needy in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City through through three key community programs:
- Beginning in 1977, we've operated a tutoring program in the Ascension Parish Hall, helping 4th- to 9th-grade students better their skills in reading, math, and critical thinking, and impart the value of embracing diversity.
- In 1982, a man named Michael Fender, alarmed at what he correctly diagnosed as a growing societal affliction, established a food pantry. Since then, The Michael D. Fender Memorial Food Pantry at the Church of the Ascension works continuously to ease the problem of hunger in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan.
- A meal ministry to the residents of Bailey House, housing for homeless persons with AIDS, was established later.
SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, June 23, 2011 for the next Moveable Feast annual fundraiser. Don't miss out on a night of food, fellowship and fun to benefit the Food Pantry. Details to follows.
